Mission and Outreach |
Mission and Outreach in our parish is focused upon three levels: local, within the Diocese and beyond the Diocese. CONTINUING PROJECTS Episcopal Community Services (ECS) –We contribute each year with funds from the budget and donations made on ECS Sunday. We also contributed 250 pairs of hats and gloves at Christmas. St. Mary’s Family Respite Center (dedicated to helping children and their families whose lives are devastated by HIV/AIDS) – Donations are sent from a combination of what was raised through Pennies from Heaven, donations from Bill and Cindy Hecker, and the budget. Imbabazi Orphanage in Rwanda – St. Philip’s special foreign mission project since 1999. Each year we send funds collected from fund-raising efforts, individual contributions and the mission/outreach budget. Sandwiches for the food kitchen at St. Mary’s Bainbridge – Once a month volunteers make 250 sandwiches for the food kitchen. This is our oldest continuing mission project. Food Cupboard at St. John’s, Kensington – No one keeps track of the numbers of non-perishable food items donated by our parish, but it is a significant amount. This is a program in which even our youngest members can take part. SPECIAL PROJECTS Habitat for Humanity: Episcopal Unity Build- We have joined with 13 other Episcopal Churches to sponsor a house being built in North Hills. Toys for Santa’s Toy Shop at St. John’s – We collect new and gently used toys for them to sell to raise money for their Christian Education programs. Mitten Tree – Scarves, hats and gloves for the children of St. Barnabas Mission (ECS). Christmas presents for Children’s Aid Services in Montgomery County – Individual families in the parish select a child to buy presents for at Christmas. You can make a difference – God Bless! |
